GREAT NECK HISTORICAL  SOCIETY

How-To Talks – Such experts as Donna Ottusch Kianka and Debbie Wang have helped us to learn how to research the history of our homes and how to interview family members to find out more about our personal pasts.

Trolley Tours – We’ve hosted several historic tours of our peninsula with such knowledgeable tour guides as Joel Friedman and Regina Gil.  We’ve explored various themes, such as the chronological history of the peninsula, the celebrities who made their homes here and the important sites past and present.

Other Topics in Great Neck History – Local experts have presented programs about such topics as the Long Island Railroad, the Vanderbilt Cup Races, and the Spinney Hill area.  We’ve seen movies written, produced, directed or acted in by Great Neck residents, heard about Great Neck writers, and learned about Great Neck in the 1920s.

Long Island’s Significant Contributions to the Development of Aviation and Space Flight – We brought a consummate professional to speak from the Air & Space Museum.   The talk was well received by our audience.

Museum Displays – We’ve rallied the community to bring their local treasures and display items of Great Neck interest in our Attics of Great Neck events.

Village History Talks – We’ve heard from village historians Leila Mattson, Ilse Kagan and Helene Herzig about the histories of Thomaston, Great Neck Estates and Kensington.
